Jose Mourinho reacts to Manchester United’s stalemate versus Crystal Palace

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had said that his team lacked the intensity in their game play which contributed to a frustrating 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The Red Devils had come into the game with the hope of going through an extended winning run but they were left frustrated by a Palace side which defended efficiently throughout the game.

Speaking after the encounter, Mourinho admitted his disappointment over the result saying: “Frustrating. The objective was to start well this period of eight matches until December. We did not win one point, we lost two. We knew where they close down and knew where the spaces were, we did not have enough aggression or intensity to kill. We gave the opponent time to have the ball and did not press enough. We gave them moments to breath, relax and for the time to go. We did not press enough.”

Meanwhile, at the end of the interview, Mourinho happened to suggest that the team should be improved with players with different dynamics and this could be a potential signal to the board to spend on new recruits when the transfer window reopens. With the result, United have experienced their worst start to a season in the Premier League era and they are currently seventh on the table with 21 points from their opening 13 matches.

Next up, United are scheduled to face Young Boys in the midweek Champions League clash at Old Trafford and a victory in that match would ensure their progress to the round of 16 stage, provided Valencia drop points in the other group stage meeting against Juventus. Thereafter, they have an away league game at Southampton where they may seek to close down the seven-point gap to Chelsea, who are currently possessing the final Champions League qualification spot.
