FOFANA SET FOR SPELL ON SIDELINES

New Chelsea defender WesleyFofana is set for a spell on the sidelines after he picked up an injury during the UEFA Champions League clash with AC Milan at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. The young Frenchman was seen on crutches at the end of the game which ended in a 3-0 win for his time. According to Sky Sports News, Fofana could missbetween four to six weeks after suffering a knee sprain during the first half of the Milan game.

Chelsea have a new owner in Todd Boehly and he made a big statement in the transfer window this summer. Boehly splashed the cash on new players including Fofana. Chelsea paid around £70m to sign Fofana from fellow Premier League side Leicester City. Leicester City were reluctant to let him leave the club this summer before an agreement was reached with the Blues.

Fofana and Chelsea have been drawn in Group E as far as this year’s UEFA Champions League group stage campaign is concerned. Italian giants AC Milan, Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg and Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb are also in the group.

Chelsea had not won a game in the group before they played hosts to AC Milan this week. They were stunned by Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb in their first group game thanks to the stunning strike from Miroslav Orsic. His goal gave Dinamo Zagreb a 1-0 win over the Blues.

The loss to Zagreb was followed by the 1-1 draw at home to Red Bull Salzburg for Chelsea. It was the first game of the Graham Potter era at the club. Swiss forward Noah Okafor scored in the second half to cancel out the first half opener from Raheem Sterling. The Blues recorded their first victory in the group courtesy the comprehensive win over AC Milan. Wesley Fofana scored to give Chelsea the lead in the first half before his exit due to injury thus paving the way for Pierre-EmerickAubameyang and Reece James to seal the win with second half goals.
