Dennis Wise heaps praise on summer signing Jorginho

Former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise has been impressed with the application of Jorginho since joining the Blues over the summer. The Italy international has been impressive for the west Londoners since the start of pre-season and Wise believes the midfielder could be influential to the way the Blues perform during the ongoing campaign.

Speaking exclusively to Goal.com, he said: “I like the boy [Sarri] has brought in, Jorginho, I think he has been absolutely outstanding. I have watched him and how he covered holes, how he pressed and he dictates to his team-mates as he wants them to do certain things. He did it at Napoli and it worked extremely well, so I am looking forward to actually seeing him do that because I think it is going to be very exciting to see Chelsea on the front foot and passing it around teams.”

Jorginho appeared out of pace during the Community Shield game against Manchester City where he was dominated by a young Phil Foden but he has since managed to impress in the Premier League opener against Huddersfield Town where he scored his maiden Blues goal from the penalty spot.

Aside from Jorginho, the likes of N’Golo Kante and Pedro also found the scoresheet in west Yorkshire where the Blues secured a 3-0 triumph and the victory should provide them a morale boost ahead of the London derby against Arsenal. Over the past decade, the West Londoners have had the better of their opponents but last campaign was an exception where they could not beat them on five occasions.

With the Premier League now reaching the second week, the Blues are expected to have nearly the entire squad to choose from for the derby and the match could witness starts for Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud. Alvaro Morata has failed to contribute in terms of goals since pre-season and Maurizio Sarri may opt for a change with Giroud offering a physical presence within the box.
