Ode to The Known Player

If  it’s football poems you want I’ll try to knock some out
For all the fans at every game that scream and shout
Their support for the one and only team that matters
Before the final whistle when the fan base scatters
Even though the side lost five nil they were really good
They were like soldiers in the ”Flanders Mud”
Specially when Luigi went in goals and saved everything
Pity he can’t play like that when he’s on the wing
Mind you they say in goals The Reaper helped him along
So much so the fans are trying to do Luigi a song
”He tried to shoot, he’s only after loot Lu-i-gi Lu-i-gi
But now he’s in our nets Lu-i-gi Lu-i-gi
We could be taking bets Lu-i-gi Lu-i-gi-
But with the reaper on his back
He is ‘gonna’ get the sack
And his name is Lu-i-gi…………….

Youth and Development

From sunday mornings, in local leagues,
Football, needs a kick up the ar*e
The players coming into the game,
Well that is looking, rather sparse
It needs, an injection, on a global scale,
To bring it back in line
With how it used to be,
Way back, in my antique time
Only certain teams, are blending experience,
With that of  some youth
In reality, that’s because,
They haven’t any money, that’s the truth
They have, a development stage, in place,
To bring the youth through
Letting the youngsters develop,
In training, and, also playing matches too
This type of system, is only now,
After years of neglect, being brought back
Top teams, with home grown players.
Wwho, seem to have the knack
Of, fitting into the teams way. and, playing
The way the team, tries to play
So ,the team can carry on building,
New generation teams, forever and a day

Luigis Spiritual Home

They ask if I like animals, so I tell them, yes I do
They are called, the local soccer team, that’s, from me to you
Animals with four legs, is a different kettle of fish
Though  maybe if they play proper football, how I wish
It would impronv my viewing time, every game, I watched ‘em play
Which at the moment, almost seems to be forever, and, a day
But, I’ll carry on watching these animals, that, play each game for us
Standing on the sidelines, starting to swear, and, cuss
But I really hope, this new player we bought, can turn things around
His name is Luigi, and, I hope, he makes hapiness abound
I hope, that when he sees us play, Luigi, ain’t no startled gnome
And that finally, he’s found, his spiritual home
